Home / Cover / Property cover
The roof over you
Homes, buildings, shops, stock and the contents inside them. We help you insure what it would truly cost to put right, and explain what the policy will and will not pay for.
Domestic & commercial property
Who it is forHomeowners, landlords, tenants with valuable contents, shopkeepers and office occupiers
Covers buildings and contents, and for businesses stock and equipment, against the perils named in the policy. Fire, theft, burglary, storm and flood are common, but which are included differs between insurers and policies, so we read the schedule with you.
Questions we will ask
- Is the sum insured what it would cost to rebuild or replace, and not what the property would sell for?
- Who owns the building and who owns what is inside it?
- What security is in place, such as guards, alarms and grilles?
Have ready: Title or lease, a recent valuation, a list of high-value items, photographs.
Fire & related perils
Who it is forAnyone with property or stock that a fire would set back badly, from a workshop to a warehouse
Covers loss or physical damage caused by fire, lightning and explosion. Insurers commonly offer extensions for perils such as storm, flood, riot and malicious damage. These are usually optional and priced separately.
Questions we will ask
- What is stored, and how much of it is combustible?
- What is next door, and how close?
- Has there been a fire or near miss before?
Have ready: Stock list or asset register, a site plan or photographs, details of fire equipment.
What a policy pays depends on its schedule, limits and exclusions, and these differ between insurers. We read them with you before you buy. Nothing on this page is an offer of cover.
